Born to live in the outdoors
Soon-to-open Black Balsam Outdoors is excited to join the Sylva community, bringing the love of adventure and the great outdoors to the downtown area. For anyone interested in gearing up for their next camping trip, wanting to suit up for an extended weekend of backpacking, or just wanting to stock up on some quality gear, Black Balsam Outdoors will be the place to go.
Named after the gorgeous Black Balsam Knob, Black Balsam Outdoors will be offering a wide selection of outdoor gear, suitable for those just getting their feet wet, intermediate adventurists, thru-hikers, and everyone in between.
Owners Georganna and Logan Seamon are no strangers to the outdoor business, having bought and operated Mountain Crossing at Walasi-Yi near Blairsville, Georgia since 2013. Adventure enthusiasts themselves, Georganna and Logan met through a trip to Alaska in 2005. The trip was organized by Appalachian State University, both of which are alumni. Since then, the pair thru-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2009 and the Colorado Trail in 2010, and in 2010 went to work at Mountain Crossings until they bought the establishment three years later.
Logan is from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, and Georganna is from Boone, North Carolina. With their southern roots and love of the Appalachian Mountains, opening Black Balsam Outdoors in Sylva seemed like the perfect fit.
“We’re so excited to have this opportunity to be part of the Sylva community,” said Georganna. “The outdoor lifestyle means a lot to both of us and we can’t wait to share our love of the outdoors with the people of Sylva.”
Black Balsam Outdoors is scheduled to open this fall.
